Bloodwork is an important part of human healthcare but it is even more crucial for our pets. They cannot explain exactly how they are feeling and so bloodwork provides key insight into their state of health. How should I prepare my pet for bloodwork?
Prior to your appointment, we will provide you with instructions specific to your pet’s case. In general, we ask that pets fast (no food, only water) for approximately 8 hours before their bloodwork. Make sure your pet comes to the clinic hydrated and relaxed.
Do pets need sedation during blood sampling?
No, not usually. They will only feel a slight pinch so anesthesia is not required. That being said, if the patient is extremely anxious we may administer sedatives to keep them calm and prevent them from experiencing unnecessary stress.
How soon can I get my pet’s results?
We have an in-clinic lab so we can provide you with the results on the same day as your appointment. We may send samples to outside labs for more complex medical cases. In these instances, it may take 3 to 5 business days to get results.
